So you are done with installing WordPress on your web hosting service after several days of researching on which blogging platform to choose & which web hosting service to go with. By opting for WordPress platform and integration of managed WordPress hosting you have made a right decision.
If you are new to WordPress, getting started with it might get a bit challenging & exciting at the same time. It’s not tough if you are willing to take your blogging to the next level. So accept the challenge and make sure you tick off certain things that you would have to do next.
Setup the title & tagline
The title and tagline will let people and search engine know what your blog is about. You can modify the title and tagline easily on WordPress. Go to Settings > General in WordPress Dashboard.
Delete sample content
Every installation of WordPress comes with sample post such as “Hello world” & with it comes sample comments. Delete it because you will be publishing posts of your own.
Change permalink structure
You don’t want your blog links to look like http://yourdomain.com/?p=23 or yourdomain.com/?p=153. Also, such links are not entertained by search engines. To change the permalinks, go to Settings > Permalinks on WordPress dashboard. I would recommend selecting post name so that your post titles will get converted into the URL.
Set the time zone
Set the time zone to your local time. So whenever you will publish or schedule the posts, this will make sure that the timing is correct. To change the Timezone, go to Settings > General. Then, scroll down and you will see an option for Timezone, Date and Time formats.
Complete your user profile
It’s up to you how you want your name & bio to be displayed in the author section of every blog posts. Go to Users > Your Profile on WordPress admin panel. You can also change your password, admin color scheme.
Integrate Google Analytics
You would want to know the stats about your blog traffic to plan your blogging strategy. Seeing your blog traffic grow will indeed motivate you to publish more blog posts. To add Google Analytics, create an account on Google Analytics and get a tracking code which you can add between the <head> & </head> header section of your blog. Go to Appearance > Editor > Theme Header (You will find this on the right side of the panel). Insert the code before </head> tag and click update file. That’s one of the steps. If you fear of adding the code in the wrong place, then you can install plugins like Google Analytics or Google Analyticator to integrate the Google Analytics code seamlessly.
Install Yoast SEO
One of the best ways to increase blog traffic is by optimizing it for search engines. A good SEO plugin will do it for you. Yoast SEO is the best plugin when it comes to optimizing your blog’s content.
Follow these steps & you are good to take your WordPress blogging to the next level.
